It has been eight years since the last fish stocking event took place at Hasse Lake. There are many anglers in and around the Edmonton area who have very fond memories fishing this small but once productive fishery. Some specific events have contributed to the lake's decline, including Summer and winter fish kills, low water levels and nutrient runoffs and algal blooms, specifically blue-green cyanobacteria blooms.
Still looking for the positive, the Alberta Conservation Association was hopeful this lake could be turned around. Work began in 2015 by first reaching out and working with local landowners community groups to reduce the nutrient issue. All of this work, including consultations with experts in lake restoration, has paid off as some 5,000 rainbow trout were re-introduced to Hasse Lake on May 11 2020.
